Peter Perkins

Greetings from Warwickshire, the English county, world famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

I had used my 16” Delta as a home handyman machine for a number of years, but it was only when I was seeking a retirement hobby in 1998 that I discovered “Guru” Patrick Spielman’s instructional books, and the full artistic potential of the scrollsaw  was revealed to me.

My first attempts at cutting artistic designs only served to confirm a serious lack of dexterity, but I persevered, and subscribed to Creative Woodworks and Crafts Magazine, which was an endless source of useful techniques and tips.

The magazine also provided the opportunity to study contemporary artistic scrollsaw pattern designs, drawn by turn of the millennium American and Canadian “Maestri di Tarsi”.

As a career engineer with no formal education in art, I am particularly influenced in my own scrollsaw sculpture designs by Marilyn Carmin’s “naturalistic” treatment of wildlife subjects, and I am also pleased to acknowledge Al Caldiero’s invention of “slab sawing” which inspired me to build my own rig, to cut larger panels which I create under the logo of Scrollsaw Art.

Although there is no specific category of entry for the scrollsaw, for the past six years I have been allowed to display my scrollsaw designs at “Woodex”, the Midlands Woodcarving and Woodturning Exhibition which takes place in April each year at the Warwickshire Exhibition Centre.

I would like to extend my thanks to the Scrollsaw Association of the World for allowing the inclusion of photo’s of my designs on their Website, and my thanks to “YOU” for your interest in browsing this page.

Kind regards – Peter C. Perkins
